This apartment is truly turning into a B&B! I may have to start charging our visitors. And there are more coming next month!
This past weekend my friend Taeko came to visit from Tokyo. She is a great friend, we lived in the same neighborhood in Tokyo, and went out drinking almost every week. Her stay was short but rich in content and jam packed with activities that left us both quite tired! Between going to the Peak, hopping on the Star Ferry, bargaining in the Ladies Market, avoiding the fortune tellers at Temple Street, taking a night boat cruise and eating dim sum, we barely had time for drinking! And that was just on the first day!

Wow. We look more than a bit smashed there. But this is us sitting at the corner of Marlin’s, my favourite margarita bar in Lan Kwai Fong, pretending to pole dance with the infamous LKF sign.
We also managed to take a day trip to Macau with my friend Juliana. This was my second time going to Macau in the same month, and no doubt will end up going next month when the next set of guests arrive. But I quite like Macau — it is a bit small and can be kind of noisy and crowded on the small streets, but it is definitely a funky little city with a unique charm.

I adore the Portuguese bakeries. The two most famous bakeries are directly opposite each other and give out a lot of goodies to try to draw customers. These little goodies above are crumbly, fresh from the oven almond cookies. They also wrap these little hot pancake thingies with a strip of nori, as well as piles and piles of beef jerky, pork jerky, veal jerky, and lord knows what else. For lunch we had Portuguese duck rice, salad, and grilled sardines. Excellent.
Taeko’s visit was short but very sweet, and I sincerely hope more friends can come visit from Tokyo. But being a tour guide is tough work! I better not quit my day job…..
