I always carry my camera everywhere like a paparazzi wannabe (or a voyeur), so I couldn’t help but pull out my digicam when I walked past this poster a few days ago.

Now is it or is it not a necklace with a pendant of sperm penetrating an egg? The ‘life of circle’? Who on earth would wear this around their neck? Gross! I could make another really gross joke about necklaces, but I’ll resist.
The other day after work I decided that I needed to go exploring. As much as I like living on Lantau island, sometimes I feel like all I do is go to work in Central and then come home and I don’t get much chance to see the ‘real’ Hong Kong. So, I figured no time like the present to do something about it, left the office, and switched into tourist mode.
I started, of course, by jumping on the Star Ferry and crossing Victoria Bay to go over to Kowloon.

I quite like taking the S.F. across the bay to Tsim Sha Tsui. And it has got to be the cheapest ride on the planet — a whopping $1.70 HKD! That is roughly 20 cents US.

This is a famous landmark in Tsim Sha Tsui — the Clock Tower which was built in 1901. It is quite a prominent feature on the waterfront. I also found a great picture of what this area used to look like, here.
I walked up Nathan Road and knew I was getting close to the Kowloon Mosque when I saw hundreds of Muslims walking the streets. Apparently evening prayers had just ended. I had no idea so many Muslims lived in Hong Kong. The mosque itself is surprisingly huge but it was getting too dark to get a good picture, unfortunately. Maybe next time.
I walked around for a bit, and then got a call from a friend that it was absolutely important that I join them for margaritas in Wan Chai, so back across I went. Wan Chai is sort of the red light district of Hong Kong, with a plethora of strip clubs that are mainly full of young Philippino girls doing their thing to make a little cash, and the bars have names like ‘The Boracay Bar’ after islands and towns in the Philippines. We however did not go looking for action, and instead went to a Mexican bar and enjoyed many margaritas and some good sh*t talk.
The exploring shall continue…
